Welcome to the The Arts Society South Downs. We meet in the pretty West Sussex village of Fittleworth and operate under the broader umbrella of The Arts Society, based in London. We are part of a network of Societies that connects over 90.000 people world-wide through an interest in art.

When we moved back to England after many years overseas and I was looking to meet people and involve myself in new activities, a friend suggested giving NADFAS, as it was then still called, a go. I was a little doubtful (would I not be bored?), but went along anyway. The lecture was on Pieter Bruegel the Elder, and it was fantastic. The lecturer was knowledgeable and amusing, the images large and high-quality, the whole experience thoroughly stimulating. I wasn’t bored for a moment. The following month I joined up as a member and have hardly missed a lecture since then. Not only have I learnt an enormous amount about art, but I have also made many lovely friends and visited places of interest I never knew existed.

If my own story has inspired you, please delve into our website, and if you like what you see, give us a try. We meet on the first Wednesday morning of the month in Fittleworth Village Hall. All lecturers we engage are Arts Society approved experts in their field, selected for their ability to educate and entertain. You may also like to check out our special interest days and visits to historic houses, parks and exhibitions.

We warmly welcome both occasional visitors and new members and look forward to meeting you!
